1. Start thinking about college. - What do you want to study? (It's okay to not know also!) - Do you want to stay in-state or out-of-state? (There are advantages for both!) - Do you want to go to a big school or a small school? (There are advantages to both!)
2. Start thinking about your classes. - Colleges want to see you challenge yourself, so consider taking higher level course. (But they also want to see you excelling, so don't take on more than you need!)
3. Find your passion! - Start thinking about what truly makes you happy and find a club or organization that caters to it. If there isn't a club or organization for it, talk to someone about starting one that does. (Colleges love to see innovation and initiative!) - Don't be afraid to get involved! (Colleges aren't looking for solely "book smart" students. They're looking for well-rounded students who did more than just go to class and do their work.)
4. Take your time. - Don't stress out about college right now. Just start considering it. It's never too early to start thinking about your future! (Unless you're an infant, then just focus on trying to get the whole walking thing down first.) - Start tracking what you are doing! (When you apply for college, you'll be able to write down everything you did throughout!)
[What can the adviser do to help?]
1. Ask me about colleges in general! (It's my job to know or find out!)
2. Ask me about college tours! (They aren't all just for upperclassmen!)
